S 400 HYBRID

The S 400 HYBRID sets new standards with regard to dynamism and emissions. It demonstrates that fuel economy does not have to mean compromise. Its combined drive system, comprising a powerful 6-cylinder petrol engine and a high-torque electric motor, operates economically and with minimum environmental impact. Together with its optimised aerodynamics, kinetic energy recovery, ECO start/stop function and tyres with low rolling resistance, consumption levels of only 7.9-8.2 l/100 km (combined) and CO2 emissions of just 186-191 g/km (combined), this S-Class is the most efficient luxury saloon in the world. It delivers the traditionally high level of ride comfort, a full boot capacity, a luxury interior ambience and even greater agility.



The combined drive unit consisting of a combustion engine and electric motor delivers power of 205 kW and 15 kW respectively. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds with a total rated torque of up to 385 Nm; the top speed is 250 km/h (regulated). 

The electric motor is supplied by a lithium-ion battery, a first in series-production vehicles. The battery is recharged through the regenerative brake system when the brakes are applied. Hybrid displays in the instrument cluster and COMAND show the current direction of power flow, i.e. from the internal combustion engine or electric motor. This environmentally compatible hybrid technology even adds to the vehicle’s agility: the boost function allows the power of both engines to be used for a brief period when accelerating.
