In doing so, the certifying body of the German Technical Inspection Authority confirmed the environmentally-friendly development of the saloon car where important advances were made in the areas of fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions and material selection which are of importance throughout the entire lifespan of the car.

Sometimes, less is more: compared to the previous model series from 2000, the modern technology of the new C-Class allows for the emissions of nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbons to be reduced by 20 and twelve percent respectively. Particulate emissions of the diesel models have been reduced by more than 90 percent through the introduction of a maintenance-free particulate filter fitted as standard.
