HCM City, Saturday - 6 June 2009 kicked off a series of highlighted activities in the GLK Month of Mercedes-Benz. Named as “GLK Outing”, this is a special event to officially launch the Mercedes-Benz all-new model - GLK 4MATIC to Vietnam market.

“We have received tremendous positive customer responses since our GLK previews in Hanoi and HCMC in early April. It shows that we have a right decision to invest in and launch this unique SUV model in Vietnam now”, said Dr. Udo Loersch, General Director of Mercedes-Benz Vietnam.

One body, two hearts - Distinctively striking designs.

Designed for style and loaded with innovative features, the GLK 4MATIC proves that a luxury performance vehicle can also have a wide side. This is the most versatile vehicle that are built for both city and off-road driving.

GLK 4MATIC sets a new trend of creative and smart designs, where distinctive character and clear message of strong personalities is sent from, no matter which angle it is viewed from.

Powerful and expressive through the whole body: The most eye-catching feature at the front of the GLK is the powerful radiator grille with its succinctly styled frame which clearly indicates this model belongs to the family of Mercedes-Benz off-roaders and SUVs. The side view of GLK is reminiscent both of the iconic G-Class and its contemporary interpretation in the form of the GL-Class. The short over hangs, upright front end, steeply angled windscreen and the taut roof lines terminating in a distinctive rear spoiler. The tail rounds off the coherent body design, which the individual styling elements coming together to form a perfectly shape whole: the rear spoiler prolongs the taut lines of the roof, before brining the vehicle to a neat conclusion with a continuous spoiler lip. The tail lamps with LED technology and twin-pipe exhaust system with rectangular tailpipes enhance the sporty styling for the steep rear.

Powerful engine and the only 7 gear transmission

The 3.0 V6 engine teams up with the world’s first 7-speed transmission – 7G-Tronic to form a perfect partnership for dynamic driving pleasure and outstanding performance. It generates 170kw/231hp at 6000 rpm, delivering maximum torque of 300 Nm at 2.500 rpm – 5.000 rpm.

GLK 4MATIC boasts a high level of flexibility thanks to its AGILITY CONTROL suspension, which controls the shock absorber forces according driving situations, and to ensure driving comfort and agility at anytime. At the same time, the driver is assisted by the speed-sensitive power steering that comes as standard in the GLK 4MATIC and provides the optimum level of steering assistance for the situation in hand. The all-new ADAPTIVE BRAKE control system in the GLK incorporates the basic anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Brake Assist System (BAS). The GLK also comes with standard-fit Adaptive Brake Lights, etc.

Safety - our top priority.

The GLK-Class comes equipped with the Intelligent Light System (ILS) with bi-xenon headlamps. Here, unlike conventional light systems, the light from the headlamps is adapted dynamically to suit the driving situation and weather conditions. The range of functions includes the active light function, country mode, motorway mode, along with enhanced fog lamps and dynamic headlamp range control. The cornering light function is integrated into the headlamp with the ILS system. LED tail lights are also included as part of the Intelligent Light System (ILS) package. Comprehensive restraint system in GLK is for the best possible occupant protection, NECK-PRO head restraint, Parktronick, etc

The whole world in your hand

The Universal Media Interface is an intelligent retrofit solution. With USB, iPod and AUX-IN connections, the UMI connector in the glove compartment is easy to access when you want to connect the data source of your choice.

It is free and safe even while driving to stream music via Audio 20 system, connect MP3 player or USB stick, iPhone, iPod, laptop, or even cassette walkman. Simply plug audio source into integral connector and scroll through the favourite tunes using some button on the multifunction steering wheel or the only navigation button on the centre console. Passengers in GLK can also enjoy Bluetooth music flow from any mobile phone without cable (audio streaming). This is the first and the only media interface kit in the market.

For the first time in Vietnam, Mercedes-Benz offers an all-new Rear Seat Entertainment. The long journey now doesn’t matter with passengers at the rear seat row. With two additional LCD screen equipped in front, this all-in-one system will distract passengers from the bad mood or help kill time to experience an exciting theatre with “hot” DVD movies. Kids are also pleasant to play their video games at the same time without any annoyance to the others.

With UMI and RSE, GLK 4MATIC makes any journeys become the enjoyment at hi-end living room and full of VIP images. These are optional equipment with affordable prices: 23,349,000 VND for UMI and 67,694,000 VND for RSE.

Environmental friendliness.

GLK 4MATIC fulfils all standard exhaust emissions limits of EU5 – one of the world’s most stringent and latest emission standards, applied for all passenger cars produced in European Union, effective as of September, 2009.

Another important record on environmental aspect that GLK 4MATIC achieved is the Environmental Certificate in accordance with ISO standard 14062, awarded by TÜV (The German Technical Inspection Agency). It’s based on a complete life cycle assessment of the GLK which comprises some 40,000 separate processes.

GLK price and market trend.

The new Mercedes GLK 4MATIC is priced from 1,39 billion VND, equivalent to USD77,900 (according to exchange rate of payment). This is considered a good price for a unique SUV in luxury car segment with several top-of-the-line features available as standard equipment.

Since its debut early April, GLK 4MATIC has got more than 200 orders. Some analysis into the figures shows that GLK customers are both gentlemen and ladies, with dynamic styles and are successful people at the age of 25 – 40. GLK also appeals to elite individuals as well as families with young kids. It also shows Vietnamese people are successful at younger ages.
